My First Knife

I was sooo excited when I got my first knife when I was about 6 years old!  I don't honestly remember what brand it was.  At that point in my life it wouldn't have mattered.  It was a knife!  Wye I could now go toe to toe with a grizzly and after I 'kilt' that barr I could skin 'im and lay back on that 'barr' rug and look at the stars at night!  I knew from my daddy's respect for his knives that I had taken on some real responsibility with that knife.  I had grown up a whole lot that day!

60 Years Later

Getting my first knife has been nearly 60 years ago now, but I still carry a knife in my pocket and now on my hip I also carry a multipurpose tool.  I'm never without either of them (well, ok, maybe when I'm in the shower).  Unlike that day nearly 6 decades ago I now do really care what brands I carry.  Victorinox and Leatherman.  That's it.  On my hip or in my pocket there will be no other brand!  About 40 years for the Victoinox and about 30 years for the Leatherman.

Over the years I've lost a few, and broke one of each by doing some prying with the blades that I knew better than to do.  Those were both sent to the companies with a note saying that I would be glad to pay for the repairs since it was definitely my fault.  Both were sent back to me just like new with a statement that the repair was "under warranty".  These companies got and still have my utmost respect!  That's why these two brands are featured here.  Believe me, I have a choice of literally dozens of brands.  I'm stickin' with a couple of old friends!  Once you try them I think you will too!
